![]() Regarding the lack of apps to check out books, see if you can get library cards internationally I know you can from outside a given city (or state, in the case of Americans) but nobody ever mentions internationally. The Clara 2E is a normal speed (for an ereader), speaking as someone who has one (and a couple other ereaders I can compare it to. Personally, other than getting warm light I wouldn't see any reason to upgrade from your old Paperwhite - the differences from year to year are incremental and the fundamental abilities are unchanged once you're engrossed in the book. It won't be slower than the one that you have. People who complain about the speed are used to phones/tables where the LCD screen updates instantly, but the benefits of eInk far outweigh the slow refresh, which you're used to with your Paperwhite - and the new ones refresh even faster. It's also significantly faster, so don't worry about the speed. I upgraded from a first Gen Paperwhite (2011 or 2012 - not sure when it was released, it's either the one you have or the prior model) to a Clara HD (the older Clara than the current one that you're looking at) and the difference is phenomenal - I really REALLY prefer the warmer light, especially at night. Personally, I'd go with a device with warm Lighting. eInk cannot be lit from behind, and it's not desirable anyhow, so that's a good thing. The new devices have the same lighting technology as your Paperwhite - that hasn't changed since ~2012 or so (first gen Paperwhite), other than just incremental improvements to the clarity and even light distribution. I'm not an english native speaker so apologies for my grammar mistakes! ![]() Has this "effect" changed with the new lights? I also have a question: I read somewhere that the new devices have frontlights instead of backlights, but what's the difference? Are the frontlights more comfortable to the eyes? What I love about my old device is that in its simplicity it looks like you're reading a real book. □Īny advice on which ereader I should buy? I also read a lot of people complaining about the kobo Clara 2e being extremely slow, so this worries me a little bit even if I doubt it can be slower than my current kindle. ![]() I made some sort of list of why I should buy one over the other one and pros and cons are more or less equal but kobo would "beat" kindle mostly for the warm light and the possibility to loan ebooks BUT in my Country we don't have apps to do that through smartphones, so each time I should use my very old and slow computer □ and I'm not sure how often I would end up using the loan possibility. I'm currently using a 2012 kindle paperwhite and thinking of buying a new ereader next time I'll find them on sale. I'm writing this post cause I'm extremely torn between these devices and I need some advice.
